The Christchurch A Red Netball team have been crowned the Celebration Box Netball NZ U18 Champs in 2022, being rewarded with the Margaret Forsyth Cup.
38 age group teams from around the country competed at the Christchurch Netball Centre during the week to be the Celebration Box Netball NZ U18 Champs and receive the cup named in memory of one of New Zealand’s greatest players.
Forsyth, who passed away last year, was New Zealand’s youngest Silver Fern to play at a Netball World Cup having been selected as a 17-year-old seventh former at Hillcrest High School.
In cold and wet weather, the teams showed why they deserved to be in the final. Playing against Waitakere 2 the Christchurch team pulled ahead in the third quarter for a match winning 23-13 lead with 10 minutes to play.
